Today I wanted to talk about the importance of…
What I mean by that is:
The value and importance of traveling our alcohol-free journeys with other like-minded sojourners!
Connecting with others that are doing what you're doing!
Who have the same goals, the same focus, and are trying to change aspects of their relationship with drinking JUST LIKE YOU.
If you're anything like I was, you were probably reading this because
you're tired of living on AUTOPILOT.
Where it’s wine o’clock and it is so easy to pour a glass and numb out.
… and when you're hanging out with people who are doing the same thing, then it is easy to make that the new norm!
I’ve found that surrounding myself with other people, especially other women, who are really changing the way that they look at wine o’clock, the way that they bring mindfulness into their evenings has been a game-changer.
When we're hanging out with people who are up levelling their game and doing hard things, we can encourage one another.
We can help one another with practical tools and understanding.
“I've been there.
I know exactly how you feel and you CAN get through this.
You CAN do a hard thing.
You CAN feel anxiety and not have to pour gasoline on top of it with alcohol.
You CAN show up for yourself.
You CAN maintain internal boundaries.”
It's really great to be hanging out with other people who are doing the same thing.
I was trying to do it all by myself and keep all these unspoken rules and promises in my head.
It was so easy to break them because I wasn't hanging out with people who were traveling the journey.
I was alone and isolated.
That often led to complacency and feeling derailed when I got off track.
The biggest way that I’ve learned to stay on track now with my goals and remain present in my own life (and not to live a double life) is…
We are all brushing up on our coping skills, learning how to be present in hard times.
This has actually made it more fun and exciting because birds of the same feather really do stick together!
So are you surrounding yourself with people that are drinking every chance they get or every weekend?
